Bio
When the first guitar chords were learned and the first metal albums were listened, the band was also there. Alot of thanks belongs to the very supporting lower primary school teacher, who let us fool around with musical equipment. The first gig was played at spring 1997 at the local youth cafe in Lohja, and the line up was Lassi Kerttula in drums, Ville Tele´n in bass, Saku Poikonen and Petri Muukkonen playing guitars and doing vocals. The band played few gigs and then ended up having a new singer Jari Saarenpää. With Jari as a singer, the name The Enchained also found its way to the gig posters. The band made its first demo cd in 1999 that carried the name “Unreal life”. It was recorded and mixed at Sound Control studios by Simo Kunttu.
Eventually The Enchained made only that one demo cd with that line up. Saku became the lead singer of the band, Pete decided to leave the band because he wanted to play different kind of music. The changing the guitar player from Pete to Anssi Virtanen was painless and very fast, more like how you change player in ice hockey or football. In that point Saku and Jussi Eklöf were best friends and they got keen on electrical music and equipment used in that kind of shit. The result was that Jussi and his “ronksuttimet” (our own slang word for samplers, synths etc.) joined the band. During this searching of the bands line up and musical style, The Enchained made its second demo cd “Vol 100%” in 2001. The ”vol 100%” was recorded at NoStatus studios by Tomi Färm
So the bands line up was back then was Saku in vocals, Anssi playing guitars, Ville in bass, Lassi in drums and Jussi making noises with his samplers and synths. The Enchained took part in few band contests and after winning one of those, the band ended up having a gig in Stockhol Sweden. Year later The Enchained won studio time and recorded demo including two songs. “Entertainment/War Game” was released in 2002 and it was also recorded at NoStatus studios by Tomi Färm. That cd can be counted as a first real The Enchained release as it really is a good cd with good songs, not just kids fooling around anymore. The band played quite alot of gigs and had alot of fun in all aspects. The Enchained got two songs in the compilation cd that promoted local bands of Lohja. The Enchained took part in one culture event wich eventually went pretty well. Actually very well endeed. The Enchained used the price money given by that culture association to record a new ep that got the name “Non Disposable” and it was released in 2003. It was also the product of NoStatus studios and Tomi Färm. This five song release got a quite a few good reviews. Actually very good indeed.
Then there was a time for the band to get washed with the waves of change. Jussi decided to leave the band and focus more in skateboarding and other hobbys. Jussis leaving left a huge hole in the sound of The Enchained, cause the gloomy atmospehere made by Jussis synth sounds had playd a remarkable role in the band. After spending a while with thinking the upcoming sound of the band, the decision was that Saku will grab the guitar again to his hands and play his part in filling the gap of sounds left by Jussi. But the storm was not over yet. The goverment invited the band members to join the war. Half of the band went to the war to shoot invisible enemies in to the endles forests of Finland while the other half decided to join the Royal laundry brigade in the non military service.
When all the enemies were killed and the laundry was dry, it was time to really get in to the band stuff again. The two guitars and no synths made the new sound of the band heard in the “good morning sunshine” ep, that was released in 2005. ”Good morning sunshine” was recorded at Hardpit studios and it was mixed by Saku Poikonen. ”The Good morning sunshine” actually has two editions. First edition consisted three songs at it was mastered by Tomi Färm. The second edition consisted six songs and was mastered by Ilpo Satuli at Windmill studios. After releasing this record Saku left Finland to go to the round the world trip wich ment a little break to band activity, cause the online technology is not in that high level yet that we could have had online jam sessions, sadly though. Then followed a period that took most of the band members to the capital region of Finland. Finding a new life, jobs, studies and jam room in Helsinki took a little while. The Mother India took away Sakus heart (what a fucking hippie) and pulled him back there again. But thanks to the mother India, it also gave the new birth to The Enchained also. Pete was travelling around India and Nepal back then with his friend and Saku met these guys there. After having a few long discussion on the one beach of Gokarn, holy village in southern India, Pete decided to rejoin the band. When Saku and Pete both had came back to Finland, the operation “install Pete back to the band” took its place. The result of this procedure is a “You´ll find us hidind” Ep, the little bit more experimental record, that was released in 2009. ”Youĺl find us hiding was recorded at Buckhill studios by Saku Poikonen and mastered at Windmill studios by Ilpo Satuli.
Now the bomb is armed and the band is getting ready for new recordings wich will bring us back to the straight, wild, energetic but still melodic sound that kicks the mother fucking ass!
